Chatterley Whitfield Coal Mine

Article text
February and March 2014

I was lucky enough to be able to visit the Chatterley Whitfield Coal Mine north of Stoke on Trent as guests of the Friends of the mine (Nigel and Jim gave me an excellent tour), whom I am also a member. The site is extraordinary in size and scope, once containing a plethora of shafts and winding gears and gradually developed over the past 150 years.

It is now derelict and access is very limited, however, I am looking forward to creating some screen prints of the existing buildings in due course
